This customer booked her dogs for Thanksgiving weekend 2 years in a row. Her dogs were elderly and otherwise never exposed to other dogs. Thanksgiving is the busiest time of our year and means the maximum exposure to other dogs. We urged this customer to look for accommodations with less exposure to other dogs.
Some dogs have a harder time fitting in with the pack than others. They have to be supervised more closely, and protocols and/or restrictions may be needed to control unwanted behaviors. There are some cases where we are unable to safely manage undesirable behaviors that may put your dog or other dogs in harm’s way. We created the Dynamic Dog program as an alternative to removal from boarding or daycare at Sleepydog Kennel.
We want to give every dog a chance to thrive at Sleepydog Kennel. We use our tools and training to first try to manage behaviors. If these efforts are unsuccessful, we refer customers to the Dynamic Dog Program. In other cases, a dog’s formerly manageable behavior may worsen.
You may drop off/pick up your within business hours, just like you have been. Instead of being integrated into the group, your dog will be kenneled in one of our comfortable and quiet upstairs kennels. Throughout the day, staff will retrieve your dog for at least three 20- minute periods of activity. These activities may include walks, training sessions, and/or time in the yard with a very select group of dogs. What we do depends...
We will work to address your dog’s issue in a way that can’t be done in a group setting. Our goal is to correct the behavior and reintegrate with the general population. We have had some success with this strategy.
